Illuminated leaf depicting St. Margaret and the dragon [manuscript], post 1412.

Leaf contains a large illuminated historiated initial "P" with St. Margaret emerging from the dragon. In front of her an elderly scribe records the event. Behind them are impressionistic trees and a background of gold arcanthus leaves. Descender of the initial forms a bar border around the single column of 18 lines written in a regular upright Gothic bookhand. Full border of colored flower heads and gold ivy. Sewing holes from previous binding; upper right hand corner torn; some paint erosion behind dragon and scribe. Probably from the suffrages section of a Book of Hours.

1 leaf : ink on vellum; circa 18 by 13cm.
